Most of the fashion trends of the 1990s were based around the casual style, such as blue jeans and the t-shirt. Tattoos and body piercings also began to became mainstream.
The early 1990s saw a continuation of 1980s fashion, woman wore tight-fitting trousers, denim shirts, neon colors and black leather jackets. Also leggings remaind popular in the first and middle part of the nineties. They were usually worn with oversized sweaters or t-shirts.
The grunge look was prominent in the 1990s. This was highly influenced by the grunge music. Teens loved to sport long hair and wore sneakers in a splash of colors.
The mid nineties saw a revival of 1960s and 1970s fashion, including hippie floral dresses, lace blouses and chuncky heeled shoes.
Around this time it was also fashionable to dress entirely in black or wear designer clothing displaying the Italian or French labels such as Lacoste, Armani Gucci or Chanel, displaying one´s wealth.
In the late 1990s women wore flared low-waisted trousers and tanktops revealing the midriff. Men choose for the baggy look. This continued into the 2000s.
